Mission has to do with sending and being sent - and it's not just about going to other countries (although St John the Baptist Church also does its share of that). Jesus said to his disciples in John chapter 20 verse 21, "As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you", and we believe that means us, members of the church, sent to serve and love our fellow human beings both locally and further afield. We support two hospitals at Malindi and Malosa in Southern Malawi with prayer and fundraising.
St John the Baptist Church has been involved in mission in these villages and beyond for hundreds of years. Its first vicar or Leader in mission was Michael de Bernewell in 1297. The present building is just over two hundred years old, a fine and unusual example of Georgian architecture. But the church really isn't the building, it's the people, and those are the ones who are sent by God to serve his world and to love it.
The sending takes various forms, all of them drawn from the Bible (and from the leadership of the Anglican church).
